My father just jumped in!

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

it is of great comfort for me to see that my father has now the plans of the school in his hands and is planning the construction. Loani is great (as usual) at running around asking all the questions and getting all the answers we need. I think I will just sit back and relax while they do all the work.LOL.

Dear Sir:

It is good to meet you throught this via and better yet to meet you in person when you come down here!

I have just hung up the telephone with the CONAFE Architect and he has informed me that the property has water, drainage and electricity. He has also confirmed that between the 11th and 12th of February he will be available to indicate the orientation and location of the 2 classrooms and the bathrooms with in the property. Concerning the accesories, toilets, basins, bathroom tiles (?), light switches, outlets, etc. they shall be provided by you.

Do you wish that the electrification be followed as in the plan provided by CONAFE when the foundation is set? I am not well lectured in architecture, so I am going in to this blind. A civil Engineer will provide support on this side until your arrival, so I will transmit to him your instructions.

I hope this answers your questions and I await your instructions…….

Hello ,Loani
let me introduce myself ,i am René (retired electrician,
also father of Nathalie )After contacting Nath. and cheking
plans and papers ; my spanish is at a beginner’s point
aldo french is also of a latin base,a fiew questions
come to mind.
First, will there be a sanitary  lot?Exemple ,toilets bowls +
hand washing basins ,water supplys ?one classe ?two
classes ?If so ; P.V.C. ( plastic pipes )should be installed
before floor ciment pourring stage.
Second ;what about electrical provisions ? Do we branch
from an existing source (friendly neibour ) ?
Do we supply a generator ? How about lights ,switches ,receptacles ,(plugs )ventilation _etc.?
I understand that the plans that we received are like
a typical of a standard  of a classroom, not covering
our project.
Here is something for you to help us ,
                     THANK YOU ,

Finding the right gift?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

As I was writing my sollicitation letter, I offered to give a small gift to anyone donating 100$ or more. The only thing left for me was to find the gift I wanted to give my generous donators.

As I was browsing the internet in search of ideas, I was looking for something unique, affordable and typically mexican. And, oh yeah, that could be sent by mail!

Then the idea stoke me: a Mexican cookbook.

I then told Loani about my great idea and she improved it. see below:

Wow, I wasn`t sure you were going to like the idea, but I`m glad you did.

Let me call Hilda tonight, I`ll tell her to tell the people to write down the recipies and I`ll pick them up next week, translate them and send them to you.

Love the idea of selling it on the net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!!!

That is a fantastic idea! I think we found our gift. No need to look further. I know that people will want the classical mexican recipes like tortillas, fajitas, gorditas, sopas and the postres.

Later, we can refine the book and I can sell it from the web site and send back the money to La Gloria and the other communities.

I am so happy you are in this!

Thanks

Nathalie

Subject: another idea

I`m just bouncing ideas around…how about a recipe book with recipes from people at La Gloria, I can have a printer make a booklet and the cover can be a photo of something or all people of La Gloria. each can give a family recipe and I`ll translate it and type it up on the puter. Again this is just an idea.

When you have plans, things are clearer!

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I Have just received the plans for the school and things are looking more clear to me. One small thing is that the plans are all in spanish. Although I understand curretn spanish I am not acostumed to construction terms.

Aula didactica: schoolroom, yes 6×8 are meters.

CONAFE will tell us which area to use because they have to program the future adding on.

Let me call the Arch tomorrow as to where exactly and I will get back to you with photos

Hi Loani,

I am going through the Conafe document as I am doing copies for my father and have some questions please.

On the first page, the authorization signed by Lic G., what do they mean by aula didactica de 6.00 x 8.00. Are we talking in meters? Also, do we know where the building will sit on the land, meaning facing south, east, west? Where will it be exaclty located on the land?

Thanks

Nathalie

Loani is essential in this project

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Hi!

Happy new year to all of you!

I want to present to you the heart of the project, the person without whom nothing would be possible as she is the one orchestrating the entire project from the mexican side and making all the contacts: My friend Loani.

HAH!  Excellent question! I will ask on monday when I pick up the papers!

I almost forgot, CONAFE being a branch of a branch of a branch of the government does not recieve “donations” in cash, only in materials…………………..AKA, the do not give out receipts….sigh. What happened with Caritas? Can Caritas Canada help you? R. B.  may be a good consultant for you in this area, he has done activities independatly down here, maybe he can give you some pointers as to how he has sent money down here. Maybe through the church in Arteaga.

C. has gotten 6 double-seat benches for the schoolroom and a friend (who has already contacted you) will be donating the 2 for left handed children.

The hunt continues………………………………

I`m happy that you are happy and that is enough for me.

Awesome!!!

I want to thank you for all that you are doing. You are the Best.

One quick question: does Conafe name the school or do we get to choose?

Take care,

Nathalie

It is done!

Lic. R. H. (Delegado of STATE CONAFE), Lic. A. R. (Logistics & Inforamtion) and Arq. F. R. (Infrastructure Coordinator), agreed to provide all the help you needed to build the school, they are very grateful for you having the initiative to help the children of these 3 colonias, they say you are a blessing, you are a God send. Lic. H. many many times asked me to thank you and to tell you that their time and knowledge will be available at any time you need.

I will pick up the papers and plans on Monday at 11 am, I will make a back-up copy to keep here and send you the the package, the package will include the original letter where CONAFE supports your construction, the plans for the largest sized schoolroom, the plans even include amounts of materials, resistance, specifications, etc.

Permits for the construction will be provided by Arch. F., material quotes you request will be supplied by either me or Lic. A. (she knows the best and cheapest material suppliers, it`s her job to keep up dated info.)

Lic. H. also added that you will be given a document/a contract where CONAFE commits to the correct use of the schoolroom(s) you will provide and where the Parents Committee will commit in the maintenance (keep up) of the schoolroom(s), meaning the daily cleaning, painting of the schoolroom when needed.

Lic. H. was very grateful that you agreed to build in the property which has already been given to them, having a CONAFE school there will make it easier for the SEP to be motivated in to building in the future a full elementary and maybe a junior high using your structure as a stepping stone. You are opening a very large door for the children of those 3 colonias. If you had not initiated this project the probability of these children would have been null, Lic. H. told me that nothing could be done in La Gloria due to property status and La Vega doesn not have enough children so nor CONAFE nor SEP would have ever been interested in that area.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOUR PROJECT IS NOW A GO!

I am including some pictures taken at the meeting, an asistante was good enough to take them for us. (Lic. H. is wearing the formal jacket, Arch. has the mustache and beard, A. and I also are in the photos)
